Der frühere polnische Außenminister Bronislaw Geremek ist am Sonntag bei einem Autounfall ums Leben gekommen.
Die Polizei erklärte, der 76-Jährige sei aus bislang ungeklärten Gründen auf die Gegenfahrbahn geraten und frontal mit einem anderen Wagen zusammengestoßen. Der Unfall ereignete sich demnach im Westen Polens nahe Lubien. (Quelle: sueddeutsche.de)
Lukasz Palucki, eine der Organisatoren des Warschauer GayPride, teilt hierzu mit:
Today polish MEP Bronislaw Geremek died in auto crash. He was one of the most gay friendly politicians in Poland. He was first who said that “Homophobia is not part of polish tradition. Homophobia is against polish interests in Europe”.
In past he said offen about “polish light” and  ”very polish word - tolerance”. In 2006 in huge interview for GAZETA WYBORCZA he said:
“We have to strongly show Europe that we are not part of this disgusting campaign of Kaczynkis Party against gays and lesbians. Right wings parties are distroing polish PR in UE when they show ther homphobia”. Â
“We have to remember and teach our children that POLAND was the only country in the world who NEVER punish homosexual act. This is our polish tradition”.Â
He was prepared to be first face of euro campaign in 2009 ( coalition of two parties: Democrats + SDPL).

in seiner Arbeit als Historiker hat er übrigens mit seiner “Geschichte der Armut: Elend und Barmherzigkeit in Europa” ein Standardwerk zum Umgang mit Randgruppen im mittelalterlichen und frühneuzeitlichen Europa geschrieben … auch als Historiker wird er vermisst werden
